The man charged with setting fire to the USS Miami submarine while in dry dock in Kittery has been working a deal that could see him resolve his case without a grand jury trial. Casey Fury has been charged with setting fire to the Miami, not once but twice; once in May and again in June, as he had been a painter on the project when the nuclear class sub was at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for an overhaul. Furys public defender, David Beneman filed a motion this week saying that he has neared a deal with the prosecutor and asked the judge for more time to work out the details. In the motion, Beneman told the judge that in his opinion, a deal could save substantial national resources extending beyond just court resources.
