The Kittery Police Department responded to the Kittery Trading Post on Route One for a report of an abandoned package in the parking lot Saturday morning. An unidentified male had been observed placing a briefcase in the lot and driving off in a van. Police cordoned off the area with the help of the Maine State Police. A K-9, trained in the detection of explosives, arrived on scene along with a State Police Trooper, assigned to the “Bomb Squad” who determined that the briefcase was empty and had not contained any harmful device or substance.
