Portsmouth Parking Omnibus 1

Reporter: Dave Andreesen
Date: June 18, 2012

Big changes could be coming to visitors who park in downtown Portsmouth in the near future. The City Council last night discussed a Parking Omnibus Plan that would better manage the city’s existing parking and add additional parking spaces. Some of the ideas the Council is considering is raising rates for higher demand on-street spaces, increasing the High Hanover Garage hourly rate to $2, allow the first hour in the garage to be free, and build a 400- space garage downtown. Councilor Ken Smith said the plan is too complicated and he wants to see the Council build off what the city already has in place. The Council will continue work on the plan and hopes to vote on a resolution this summer.
