New Hampshire's unemployment last month rose to 5.4 percent, an increase of three-tenths of a percentage point from the June rate. This time last year, the unemployment rate in the state stood at 5.5 percent. However, New Hampshire had a lower rate than the rest of the nation, where the unemployment rate for July stood at 8.3 percent, which was an increase of one-tenth of a percentage point from June. The number of unemployed New Hampshire residents increased by 2,270 over the month to 40,140.
