The Local Government Center's Board has voted to file a motion for reconsideration and an appeal to the New Hampshire Supreme Court over being ordered to return upward of $100 million to cities and towns statewide. Judicatory hearings determined that the LGC violated state law by improperly collecting and retaining millions of dollars in surplus funds for health and property liability funds it maintained for state and local employees and retirees. The Secretary of State Bureau of Securities Regulation performed the investigation and found that the LGC misused the surcharge money and therefore owes the cities and towns which funded the seed money upward of $100 million. The LGC was given 30 days to file a request for reconsideration and they also were given the right to file a notice of appeal. They have voted to do both.
