A bill signed into law this month by Gov. John Lynch has received high marks from Oyster farmers in the region. Previous law stated that oyster farmer licenses were only good for one year, which all but made it impossible for farmers to grow the oysters to market size, as that can take up to five years. The new bill extends the amount of time a license is valid which should help to revive the oyster population in the Great Bay. The Great Bay currently houses about seven oyster farms and those farmers say the new law just makes sense.
