Portsmouth Council to Address Who Will Pay for Obama Visit

Reporter: Dave Andreesen
Date: September 3, 2012

The Portsmouth City Council will discuss the upcoming Obama visit to the Port City at their Tuesday tonight. The President and First Lady will be accompanied by Vice President Biden and his wife at a campaign stop at Strawberry Banke this Friday morning, which will be the first campaign stop after this week’s Democratic National Convention. Councilor Ken Smith said he plans to bring up the matter of requesting the Obama campaign paying for any cost the city incurs for the visit. Obama’s return to the Granite State comes only three weeks after he visited Rochester. Residents packed the Rochester City Council chambers expressing their outrage over the city absorbing over $9,000 the city paid for fire, police, and emergency services for the President’s visit. Tuesday's meeting starts at 7pm at Portsmouth City Hall.
