The Hampton Planning Board gave the go-ahead on Wednesday for a project that would fill in 6,300 square feet of wetlands in order to construct a five-court basketball facility on Winnacunnet Road. Over objections by the Conservation Commission, the board voted 4-1 to approve a special permit request to fill in the man-made wetlands. The board then voted unanimously to support the site plan for the 36,000-square-foot basketball facility on Winnacunnet Road. The Conservation Commission opposed that project because the panel decided the proposed mitigation offered to make up for filling in the wetlands doesn’t adequately compensate the town. The developers have also agreed to gravel pave the basketball facility’s parking lot, which was one of the requests made by the Conservation Commission.
