Dover Council Votes Down Scenic Byway

Reporter: Dave Andreesen
Date: September 12, 2012

The Dover City Council voted against approving an application for a scenic byway through the city at tonights meeting. Council Chambers were at capacity as residents held signs and addressed the council during the public comment session, saying that the state- sponsored corridor would severely restrict abutting property owners’ rights and give more power to the state over zoning regulations. Deputy Mayor Bob Carrier was against the application because he doesn’t think the city should be lured by money state was going to give Dover for the byway.

The Council voted down the application 7 to 2, with Councilors Bill Garrison and Dot Hooper in favor of the byway.
