Berwick Downtown Vision Committee Holds First Meeting
Reporter: Dave Andreesen Date: September 19, 2012
The first meeting of the Berwick Downtown Vision Committee was held tonight where about 20 residents started the process of creating a plan for the redevelopment of the downtown area. The town’s Economic Development Committee chartered this citizen-led group to discuss options for the eventual development of the vacant Prime Tanning property, with the end result being the creation of a comprehensive plan that may include businesses, shops, a park, and a re-routing of traffic through the downtown area.
While the committee noted that an undertaking like this would take some time, they were encouraged by the level of interest already from the citizens of Berwick. Committee Chairman Frank Underwood drew comparisons to the development of Newmarket's Route 108 corridor, and said an opportunity like this for a town doesn’t happen very often.
The Downtown Vision Committee will hold meetings on the first Monday of every month at the Town Hall beginning at 7pm.
