Home Care Aid faces Burglary and Drug Charges

A thirty year old home care aid has been arrested for stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars in rare jewelry from an elderly woman in Maine and also on drug charges. Jocelyn Dowey of Rye was arrested back in February after police executed a search warrant that allegedly turned up at least $10,000 worth of stolen jewelry found in her possession and a plethora of prescription medication for which she had no prescription. She is scheduled to undergo a probable cause hearing this month in Portsmouth circuit court. Dowey is also facing charges in Maine, as an investigation by Kittery Police found that Dowey was selling large amounts of jewelry to a jewelry store in Portsmouth. She was indicted in May of this year on a single charge of Class B felony theft, and was arraigned in York County Superior Court. If convicted, she could face a prison sentence of up to 40 years.
