Police Departments across New Hampshire and Maine will be holding an unused prescription drug take back day this Saturday. Portsmouth Police Captain Mike Schwartz said the program is intended to get unused prescription drugs off the street and not into the hands of people with drug addiction. He also said the misuse of prescription drugs is becoming more of a public health problem, which makes the program all the more important.
In April, the DEA collected over a half a million pounds of prescription meds nationally. Portsmouth will hold a collection from 10 to 2 at the Police Department, and their 24 hour drop box located outside the Department is always available.
