NH e-court project slows due to funding issues

A sweeping plan to modernize New Hampshire's court system has been slow to get off the ground due to limited funding.

In 2011, judicial officials announced a $5 million plan to transition to a paperless, electronic system for all courts. But the price tag has nearly doubled since then, and the Legislature declined to allocate more money this spring.

Supreme Court Chief Justice Linda Dalianis said that for now, the e-court project will focus on small claims cases rather than the entire court system. She hopes that lawmakers will be more generous once they see that the changes produce good results and aren't wasting taxpayer dollars.
