The Portsmouth City Council reviewed the final report issued by the Parking Garage Selection Committee which was charged with analyzing potential sites for a new downtown parking garage. The report identified the Worth Lot as the first viable site to meet the short term needs, and it also addressed the long term parking needs of the city by recommending the McIntyre and Deer Street lots as two future sites.
Committee Chair and Councilor Tony Coviello agreed with Councilor Chris Dwyer in that the city needs to look years down the line to the possibility of having three additional downtown garages.
Coviello went on to say that if the Council acted on the proposed site in the next few weeks, they would vote on issuing a bond within a few months to begin construction planning, with the hope of opening a garage in 2015.
