Resolution to Raise Water and Sewer Rates in Rochester

A new resolution in Rochester will be heard next month during the city council meeting,  would raise the water rate by 11 cents per 100 cubic feet of water, and the sewer rate by 14 cents per 100 cubic feet of water. The increases stem from multimillion dollar costs that the city anticipates they will have to spend to upgrade the wastewater treatment facility to be in line with new EPA regulations on nitrogen discharge. The new regulations would force Rochester to spend around $20 million dollars in upgrades. Once the council has the first reading of that proposed resolution, councilors plan on scheduling a public hearing on the new water and sewer rates, which would see the average citizens bill increase by 7 dollars.
