Representatives from nearly every Maine and New Hampshire congressional delegation gathered yesterday in Kittery, where possible design ideas for the new Sarah Mildred Long Bridge were discussed. The project is expected to cost around $170 million and at this point funding sources have yet to be worked out, although its expected that the Federal Government will be involved to some degree. Some of the design ideas presented include a bicycle path, rail and vehicle traffic traveling on the same level, and raising the height of the bridge above the current bridge. A design team has been selected and that phase of the project is expected to last into early 2014. Officials believe it would then take 3 years to complete the new bridge.
