A Black bear cub caused quite a commotion yesterday in South Berwick. Police were called after the bear was spotted around 3:30 in the afternoon on the Berwick Academy campus, which cancelled all after-school sports programs as a precaution. The bear then ran across the street and up a tree on Norton Street, where it stayed until around 6:30 before running back into the woods off Route 236. The Maine Warden Service was called but did not respond, and instead told people to stay away from the bear and let it go back into the woods on its own.
