New Hampshire’s Republican Party has asked the Attorney General to investigate whether Democratic Senate Candidate Paul Hodes is conducting push-polling against his leading GOP rival, Kelly Ayotte. Republican spokesman Ryan Williams said the complaint came from calls last week to people in which pollsters asked what seemed to be misleading questions about Ayotte. Williams said the questions sounded like they were meant to bring a negative response. Under New Hampshire law, poll questions about an opposing candidate that reference information about that candidate’s character or record, are considered “push polling”. A spokesman for Hodes, Mark Bergman, insisted that all of the campaign’s polls are lawful and conducted for statistical purposes only. He would not say if Hodes paid for the polls which brought about the Republicans’ complaint.
