York residents will consider whether to ban fires and cooking grills on public beaches, at a public hearing in late August. Selectmen heard from residents, police and fire officials at a meeting last night, where the subject came up. A proposed amendment to the town’s ordinances would ban open fires at public beaches between mid-May and mid-September. Part of the ordinance amendment would also prohibit cooking grills on beaches. Language in the ordinance as it is now restricts the use of fires and grills, but doesn’t outlaw them.
