Police are now saying a man and his children were not hurt when they were almost struck by a motorist in a crosswalk in the town of Rye Tuesday night. The accident happened around 7:30 in the evening near the Rye General Store. It involved a chain reaction along Ocean Blvd. as two vehicles stopped at the crosswalk and were rear-ended by a third, pushing them toward the pedestrians. The father apparently was able to pull the children away from the oncoming car just in time. Five people were taken to area hospitals, some just as a precaution. The children were particularly shaken up, but none of those injured suffered life-threatening injuries. The accident is still under investigation and no charges have been filed. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors.
