State transportation officials are focusing their investigation on the Memorial Bridge structure itself, after a report that a chunk of metal fell from it. So far, they have not found any indication of damage that might have produced the chunk. Yesterday, we reported that tugboat pilot Bob Hassold saw a four-to-five-foot chunk of metal fall from the bridge and land in the water in front of his boat. No word yet on whether divers or netting will be used under the bridge to try to locate the metal.
